WV Division of Tobacco Prevention
Despite the fact that the consequences of tobacco use are well-known to West
Virginians, residents continue to use tobacco in alarming numbers. Tobacco
use is the number one preventable cause of premature death and disease. West
Virginia is aggressively addressing this problem by implementing
evidence-based comprehensive tobacco control programs.
WV Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program
The West Virginia Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program assesses rates of
infectious diseases through surveillance and develops strategies for disease
prevention and control which are implemented in collaboration with local
health departments. Also conducts outbreak investigations in collaboration
with local health departments.
Health Statistics Center
The HSC has two main functions. The first is to be the state’s official
repository of birth, death, marriage, and divorce records ("Vital Records").
Healthy People 2010
Healthy People 2010 will undertake another decade-long effort toward
continuing to improve the health and lifestyles of Americans.
WV Family Planning Program
In 1970, Congress enacted Title X (ten) of the Public Health Service Act, the
only federal program - then and now - devoted solely to the nation-wide
provision of family planning services.
